About Bell Truck Services

Our History

Bell Truck Services was founded in 1979 by Robin Bell. Robin served his apprenticeship at Crystal Ford of Beverley and worked for this company for 9 years. Robin then joined Watts Brothers of Beverley who were the largest haulage firm in the East Riding of Yorkshire. As mechanic/recovery driver, he gained considerable experience in recovering Heavy Goods Vehicles. In 1979 he decided to “go it alone” and founded Bell Truck Services located on the outskirts of Beverley at the Victoria Barracks.

Bell Trucks Services first recovery vehicle was a Morris Commercial 4×4, fitted with a Weaver Crane. This vehicle is still occasionally used to recover vehicles from difficult muddy terrain. Soon, a second, larger recovery vehicle was required and a scammel “Coffeepot” was purchased. This vehicle was used for heavy lifting and winching.

Due to the success of the business, larger premises were purchased in 1987 at Plaxton Bridge, Woodmansey, Beverley where the firm continues to operate. The property has substantial garaging for the firms expanding fleet of recovery vehicles, in addition to secure storage.

Our Staff

All staff are fully trained and conversant with the recovery of all types of vehicles ranging from Coach Recovery, Heavy Recovery, Lorry Loader, Light Recovery and Hazchem/ADR training all certificated.

Our current staffing levels are as follows:

  • Four full time recovery operators – fully qualified LGV Class C + E
  • Two part time recovery operators – fully qualified LGV Class C + E
  • Two full time qualified mechanics
  • Two full time office administrators

The two part time recovery operators are amongst the few female recovery operators in the area, if not the country. This is of particular benefit in recovering/assisting lone female drivers at the roadside.
